Why is SETI running on OpenMacGrid?
There was some criticism on Slashdot from someone that noted that SETI was running on his/her Mac via OpenMacGrid. Here is an abridged version of the explanation that I posted there.
"We are integrating BOINC into OpenMacGrid, and are currently testing it. The SETI job you saw was a test job, nothing more.
Why are we integrating BOINC into OpenMacGrid? At times, OpenMacGrid may not be completely filled by submitted projects. It will depend on how many projects are running at the time. If the grid is reasonably empty, we will probably run BOINC projects to make best use of the valuable resource that OpenMacGrid is. It would be a shame to let it sit idle when there is an ebb in projects.
It is also important to point out that SUBMITTED PROJECTS WILL ALWAYS GET PRIORITY over BOINC jobs, or anything else; BOINC will only be used as a top-up.
We haven't determined which BOINC projects will be run on OMG yet, but it will probably be a mix."
