Folder icons
I really don't like the way the download folder adopts the icon of the latest file to be downloaded, I can't see how it actually provides any benefit.
All the broken scripts
X apps no longer find their resources, scripts that set up an environment and launched a program suddenly stop working in Leopard. Yeah, they can all be fixed (I hope), but why the gratuitous changes?

Definitely the new folder icons
I would have voted for "improved" AD compatibility, but that's a bug, not a feature.
Spotlight
Spotlight was not broken in Tiger, but it's definitely broken in Leopard.
It cannot search the Library. Try finding "aqua blue" in your desktop pictures folder.
Also, documents, images, PDF's etc were grouped in Tiger's spotlight and separated by a visually clear blue band, that also allowed the group to be collapsed. In Leopard you get one long list of everything within a category.
APPLE: fix what your broke and give us back the organizational features of Spotlight that Tiger had....
Spaces
I like the fact that virtual windows are now standard for an operating system other than linux... but for the sake of humanity, stop changing the spaces on me for some unforeseen reason. I've learned to press F8 when I want a Safari window in space 2 if I already have one in space 1, but Ugggg! I know I have a good mental model when working with multiple windows, but guess this is the only way to bring virtual windows to the masses...
But even with this... I still hate the new folder icons more!
Icons for stacks
You can resort the folder to arrange by name. Right click and check the options under sort. It makes sense to sort by download date so that you can use the stack otherwise you will have to open the download folder to find the recent files.
I use nice transparent icons as described here

Spaces and missing Ical event icons
I tried spaces for a while, but the very idea of multiple desktops just seems like too much human multitasking and anti KISS principle.
Also while I'm not too taken aback by the new in line editing in ical, I can't fathom why Apple decided to remove the icons for each ical event that indicated there were notes for that event.
Biggest complaint: I need to reboot at least four times a day due to lockup on a completely fresh install. I'm still holding out judgement though as I think this has much to do with me testing out Leopard and doing some silly things. For example I thought it would be clever to drop folders into Mail's notes applications so my projects and their files would be together. After several days of lockups I finally realised that the entire folder contents were being store in the notes and not just a hyperlink to the folder. Also testing out VPN, SMB server connections has got my into lockups too.
All told though, I much prefer Leopard. I'm particularly happy that in Leopard you can finally set your idisk to automatic syncing and still be able to shut down the computer, previously the auto syncing prevented this. Also network drives mount and unmount much better.
Spotlight for System Files
I agree that the blue band which grouped documents in Spotlight in Tiger was nice. However, I'm extremely glad that the "Spotlight window" disappeared -- it didn't belong to any application, floated on top of everything...
But Leopard's Spotlight can search system files and "Spotlight items" (i.e., iCal events).
In the Finder, start a search, then click the "+" button to add a criteria. Now choose "Other" from the popup menu in the criteria selector. If you look through the list, there's one option for "System Files" (check it to make it always available as a criteria) and "Spotlight Items" (ditto).
Now the system files aren't searched by default, but it's extremely easy to add the criteria in a search. I do prefer this option, although I wish there was a checkbox in the Spotlight preferences to make this easier to enable.
BTW: The tip came from TidBITS.
Inconsistent Keyboard Shortcuts
Another annoyance is that Apple seems to be less consistent about keyboard shortcuts across applications.
For example,to access Qucklook, within Finder you press the space key, but within Mail you press command+Y. To create a ToDo in iCal, you press Command+K, but to create a ToDo in mail you press Option+Command+Y. There are many other similar anomalies.
Spaces
Yes, a proper implementation of spaces could have been so much more.
We need a new Poll
What should have been included in Leopard, but wasn't?
Java 6 support
use time machine through Airport Base Station
etc.
New Poll coming soon...
There will be a new poll coming soon, but it won't be on that topic. We can't comment on things that Apple may release in the future...
Removal of iCal's info drawer/tray
The info drawer on Tiger, which immediately tabled all the data
on any selected iCal entry, used to be available as an option.
No need to right-click, command-I or anything else on every last
entry. You could rattle through a long list of events or search
results in seconds.
Now, you have to stop and click or whatever on all of them - and that
ugly balloon blocks the view of the rest of the calendar. Unless you also
click it, drag it out of the way etc. etc. . The balloon is also way too
small to view more than a couple of lines, so you have to scroll through
that too. Quite astonishing - a true, non-optional step backwards.
It appears something designed for a telephone display has been foisted
on my 24-inch monitor.
This alone is a show-stopper for me. I thought Macs were really solid,
no flakey "upgrades", and definitely no removal of features.
Back to Tiger, and if it doesn't get "fixed", back to PCs.
I'm very disappointed in Apple.

Time Machine
I am a little disappointed with time machine. I have set it up to do back ups of the hard drive on my MacBook. With a 160 GB drive to back up to, it will only back up the first time, and then after that, it says that it can't back up because there isn't enough room (only 20 or 30 GB left). I thought that after the initial backup, that time machine would only track the files that had changed between one, back up and the next. I am definitely not changing that many files on the disk.
I would also like it, if within Time Machine, that we could have the choice of including files/folders to backup, instead of only excluding files/folders.
Re: Time Machine
Do you have Parallels or VMWare installed? One thing to keep in mind is that those virtual disks are also backed up. Same with some email program catalog file (like Entourage). So anytime you get a new email or open a virtual machine it is marked for backup. If your VM is 30 GB, then that is a 30 GB incremental.
Again, I'm not certain what your setup is, but it's something to consider.
Regards,
Dave
Why didn't they get Spaces right?
Whoa, what a disappointment. I thought "yeah, finally a multiple desktop environment properly done by Apple", but switching from VirtueDesktops is just such a nightmare. Spaces is much less powerful, even annoying to use. I wish I could go back to VirtueDesktops!
So what do I miss..
.. well I won't list everything, but for example:
* handle applications with multiple windows (iterm) properly. For example you can't use tabs to switch to the one on your desktop, it will go back to the first window of the app
* toggle application windows to appear on all spaces
* customize background pics of each space (helping to know which space you are on)
What do you miss in Spaces?
Maybe we can get Apple do improve on this?
Reading all these
Reading all these frustrations learns I don't want to upgrade to Leopard so far!
Please, if you plan to upgrade (just for Spaces), install the Desktop Manager,
it's a must for Tiger...
Though I am intruiged by Xcode 3 new components.
