Vibration Spectrum Analyzer Ver 1.30 For the iPhone Released

Version 1.30 of Vibration, the vibration spectrum analyzer for the iPhone was just released on the iTunes App Store. Version 1.30 contains a number of new features which greatly increase the functionality of the application.

The Vibration 1.30 release introduces the ability to inspect the data on the device. To view the value of the amplitude or frequency data at a particular point the user simply touches the display of the iPhone and a cursor appears under the users finger. The data at the position of the cursor is displayed for each channel. To inspect other data points the user simply moves the finger on the screen. The cursor tracks the users finger and the display updates in real time. This enhancement makes it simple to read out specific data values without sending the raw data to a computer for analysis.

The data inspector is very useful and sometimes it is necessary to get a closer look at the data to select the the desired point. Vibration 1.30 adds the ability to zoom in on the data. Simply double tap the display in the area of interest and the view will expand by 2x or 3x for a better view of the data. Once the view has been zoomed the user can use the inspector to examine the values of the data. This feature works on both the amplitude and frequency data.

Another major enhancement requested by a number of users is level triggering for individual channels. It is now possible to turn on triggering and set the acceleration level at which data sampling will start. Most users are familiar with triggering on a typical spectrum analyzer where you can select a channel and a trigger level. Vibration improves on normal triggering by allowing the user to set independent trigger levels for each channel. If the level on any of the enabled channels is exceed data sampling will begin. The addition of triggering now allows the device to be placed in position for sampling and wait for a disturbance to occur before taking data.

This latest release of Vibration makes the iPod/iPhone the most powerful (and least expensive) vibration analysis tool you can hold in one hand! The major features of version 1.30 include:

  • Adjustable sample rate from 10Hz to 100Hz
  • Selectable data length from 128 to 1024 samples
  • Variable start delay from 0 to 20 seconds
  • Adjustable vertical scale for both time series and frequency data
  • DC Remove option to get rid of the gravity vector
  • Switchable Hamming window for frequency analysis
  • Frequency data plotted as Linear-Linear, Log-Log, Log-Linear and Linear-Log
  • Computes rms vibration for each channel and for all three channels combined
  • Document your results by taking screen snapshots and syncing them to your computer or sending a CSV formatted email with the time and frequency data to your computer.
  • Turn on and off individual frequency plots
  • Calibrate your accelerometers and examine and edit the calibration data
  • Switchable sounds to mark the start and stop of data acquisition
  • Data inspectors and zoom
  • Triggering off one or more channels
