Time travel in the next few months?

The british popular media is abuzz with the news that it may be possible to time travel in a few months. Here are a few links to the stories:
These stories are based on this recent pre-print that essentially says that it may possible that the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN which is due to be turned on later this year, would create traversable wormholes which would allow for time-travel.
Sounds completely nuts to me. But still, too cool to not post about ..

I suppose it's a bit of relatively harmless fun -- they could've speculated that a super-massive particle that would swallow us all could be created (there was something about it in the press a few years back, I think).
Their science coverage is usually more problematic, as can be seen at http://www.badscience.net.
Why not?
When some people suggested a few hundred years ago that the earth wasn't flat, everyone called them nuts.
When some people suggested
When some people suggested that the world was going to end in 2000, everyone called them nuts, too!
hmmmm
Not to be too pedantic but it's been over two thousand years since people believed in a flat earth (at least since the time of aristotle 330 BC)
"and with extraordinary few exceptions no educated person in the history of Western Civilization from the third century B.C. onward believed that the earth was flat"

Time travel
I just want to get to 1/20/09 as fast as possible.
