Phidgets come to Mac OS!
For folks doing anything involving hooking computers up to instruments, devices, or even toys, this news might be interesting. The phidgets project (physical widgets) created by Saul Greenburg at U Calgary has made significant progress in the last few years. The goal of the project was to make prototyping physical devices or widgets cheap and easy to promote more activity. Saul had a few classes that involved projects building new phidgets. They have all been very interesting. But what's more interesting to me is that the core board (seen here: http://www.phidgets.com/) is $100 canadian and includes:
PhidgetInterfaceKit 8/8/8 - One of our most popular and versatile phidgets with
- 8 Analog Inputs,
- 8 Digital Inputs,
- 8 Digital Outputs,
- a 2 Port USB Hub
The 8/8/8 comes packaged with a 6' USB Cable. A Power Supply is required to use the 2 Port USB Hub.
With the software for Mac OS in beta, this becomes a very interesting little device for hacking on hardware projects in lab, at school or around the home!
