Now You Can Store 'Molecules' in Your iPhone

The App Store is not even officially open, and we are getting reports of some very cool software coming to an iPhone near you. And scientists needn't feel left out: Brad Larson of Sunset Lake Software has a little treat for anyone that needs to visualize molecular systems. Brad's new app, Molecules, turns your iPhone/iPod touch into a matchbox of molecules. Best of all, it's free, and open source.

The Sunset Lake Software web site describes Molecules as "... an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows you to view three-dimensional renderings of molecules and manipulate them using your fingers." Of course, you can use all of the usual bag of tricks: "You can rotate the molecules by moving your finger across the display, zoom in or out by using two-finger pinch gestures, or pan the molecule by moving two fingers across the screen at once."

Brad has a blog post introducing the software where you can learn more.

Molecules is a commendable effort. If it's any indication of what's to come for science on the iPhone, the future is truly bright.

Problem with using Intel FORTRAN

I recently bought Intel's FORTRAN package_fc_p10.0.016. However, I cannot find any hard cover manuals for this software. I looked for a FORTRAN manual as well as installation and instructions. There is an .htm manual but I found it to be not useful.

I have been programming using FORTRAN since the middle 60's but I do need the details for this particular compiler.

Does anyone have any ideas where I may purchase the appropriate manuals.

Thanks,
