Grants.gov: MacViewer Installer for Intel Based Macs

MacResearch has modified the installer for the MacViewer application (Pure Edge application for Macs from IBM) to enable it to install on Intel based Macs. The installed application will run via translation through Rosetta. No modifications have been made to the actual application. Therefore this installer CAN also be used on PowerPC Macs.

Please note that neither MacResearch or IBM can offer support for using the application in this manner. Therefore use of the installer and application for any purpose is completely unsupported. Neither MacResearch or IBM can be held responsible for any problems/damage/issues that arise from using the installer or software. The installer is provided here as a courtesy to the community.

Of course if you are able to successfully use the application for a grant submission please let us know, as we'd be interested to here about it.

You can download the modified installer package here

grant funded

And if we don't get funded, can we blame it on you guys? ;-)

More seriously, can you quickly describe how you get that done. Did you "simply" have to use otool or something similar, or was there some other dark trick?

thanks for sharing that,

Does Not Seem to Work

I installed it on my iMac-24 Intel Core 2 Duo running OS 10.4.8, and restarted (as required). On restart, the .xfd file's icon had changed to the IBM Workplace Forms Viewer.app icon. I double-clicked the file, and gave it permission to open a new application. Then... nothing happened. I double-clicked the application icon, and it makes an "opening bounce," but the application does not open. Any tips?

Re: Does Not Seem to Work

To be honest I only tested it using one of the xfd files from the grants.gov site. The specific one I used was:

http://apply.grants.gov/apply/UpdateOffer?id=4467

Does that one open if you double click? I just reinstalled it and tried again and it worked for me.

To Answer Charles' question. Inside the installer package in:

Contents/Resources

Is a file called InstallationCheck. I edited that to remove the Intel/PowerPC test.

No, it does not work. I downloaded the .xfd file to my desktop. I double clicked it, and the icon tries to open, but nothing happens.
