getting Grace up and running
By smg58 at Thu, Apr 3 2008 5:15pm |
Hi,
I downloaded Grace, and the configuration of it seemed to go smoothly, but when I typed 'xmgrace' I got the following message:
Warning: Widget must be a VendorShell.
Error: attempt to add non-widget child "dsm" to parent "xmgrace" which supports only widgets
Does anybody know what this means?
Thanks,
Scott

Grace
First of all, I am too lazy and use fink a lo to install most of my *nix software.
Second, did you installed M*tif and the FFTW libraries?
The error reminded me of some I have gotten with conflicting lesstif/motif instalations.
Grace is also available under Darwin Ports..
Scott:
Grace is available under Darwin Ports (see http://darwinports.com/). It is a lot easier to install it via Fink or Darwin Ports. I have been using it via Darwin Ports and it works like a charm.

macports vs darwinports and xmgrace
I would avoid darwinports: that domain is basically mirroring and stealing the work of macports.org. There was a name change from darwinports to macports, and then someone jumped on the old domain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacPorts
Anyway, I use macports to install xmgrace, and it works well. I have details of the installation here:

grace mac osx binary
I use the grace binary from here

Scroll down for the download link.
