BioInformatics software
I was recently reading BMC Bioinformatics and came across two papers by Daniel Frank that I thought might be of interest. The first describing XplorSeq a software package that facilitates the compilation, management and phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequences. XplorSeq was developed for, but is not limited to, high-throughput analysis of environmental rRNA gene sequences.

The second paper describes two other tools, Barcrawl a software program that facilitates the design of barcoded primers, for multiplexed high-throughput sequencing. The program Bartab can be used to deconvolute DNA sequence datasets produced by the use of multiple barcoded primers. There is more information on the Phyloware website.

More articles about software on the Mac?
Thanks for sharing this paper. I was wondering if there are other papers describing scientific software for OS X, and explaining the power of Objective and Cocoa. I searched in scopus but didnot find a lot.
In general, have you ever got comments from reviewers or editors telling your software should not use proprietary frameworks, or should not be bound to a single plateform with a low market share?
Publishing Mac software
I've only published one Mac-software paper and there were no issues about platform or market share. The only requirement was free release of an executable and/or code to the academic community.
